Lecrin Valley property is ideally situated since, not only is the area delightful in itself, it is also just a short drive to the magnificent city of Granada and a forty minute drive to the beaches on the south coast, not forgetting the skiing in the Sierra Nevada. The little known villages in the area remain very traditional and largely untouched by time, and for the main part, Lecrin Valley property has kept its traditional feel and is certainly unspoilt by any large scale Spanish developments.
The Moors travelling south from Granada fell in love with this area with its rich soil, rushing rivers and mountains providing natural fortification to the valley. It was named El Valle de Lecrin or, the Valley of Happiness and many of its present day inhabitants would concur that its given name is quite appropriate.
The Lecrin Valley is situated between Granada and Motril on the southern coast and at the centre of the valley, in Beznar, is a large fresh water lake with many idyllic spots. It is a delightful part of unspoilt Spain and it is very easy to see the appeal of Lecrin Valley property.
A larger town in the area is Durcal, situated on the southwest face of the Sierra Nevada, has been increasing in popularity amongst foreign buyers. Durcal, Lecrin, Molvizar and Niguelas are some of the better known villages, although you will also find property for sale in Lecrin Valley under Pinos del Valle, Conchar and Albuñuelas. The latter is more off the beaten track than some of the other villages and quieter though does have its own municipal gym!
There are some lovely walks in the surrounding countryside and the area in the spring is a sight to behold, with almond trees blossoming and wild flowers blooming. There are many other villages in the Lecrin Valley that are worthy of note and deserving of a visit.
